National Down Syndrome Society Partners with Lyft to Promote Voting Accessibility for Individuals with Down Syndrome
Washington, D.C. (October 15, 2024) - The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) is proud to announce a new partnership with Lyft to ensure individuals with Down syndrome can easily access their polling locations this election season. Through this partnership, NDSS will provide a discount code for Lyft rides from October 1 to November 5, empowering the Down syndrome community to exercise their right to vote.
Voting is not only a civic duty, but an indispensable way for members of the Down syndrome community to make their voices heard. This partnership aims to reduce barriers to transportation, helping individuals with Down syndrome participate in the electoral process and make their voices heard at the local, state, and federal levels. NDSS has previously worked with Lyft to remove barriers to transportation by ensuring individuals with ABLE accounts can use their funds to pay for a Lyft.
“We are grateful to Lyft for their ongoing commitment to making transportation accessible for our community,” said NDSS President & CEO Kandi Pickard. “Individuals with Down syndrome have the right to participate in the democratic process and we hope to see increased participation and representation of our community in this election because of it.”
"At Lyft, we believe everyone should have access to reliable transportation, especially when it comes to getting to the polls," said Jordan Markwith, Head of External Affairs, Lyft. "We're proud to partner with NDSS to help ensure that more people can make their voices heard this election season."
